The BEST Low Calorie Summer Cocktails

This is a subtitle for your new post

This weekend is the annual “get tipsy and set off explosives” holiday, and we always get the question “What is the healthiest drink for weight loss?”.

West Chester, PA is home to some of the best restaurants and outdoor dining in Chester County, so we always encourage our members to make good choices as they imbibe.

In the heat of the summer, people are always drawn towards fruitier drinks and things that seem “light”, but in reality those drinks are typically high in calories and sugar and are not friendly toward your waistline.

You can very easily stack 800+ calories into your daily diet without even realizing!

STOP HERE:

Now, here’s the truth about alcohol and weight loss. It’s not JUST the calories that you should be worried about.

Even having one alcoholic beverage can lower your inhibitions and cause you to eat more than you usually do, and have less willpower to say “no” to junk food and snacks that don’t align with your diet.

So before you drink too much, make sure you fill up on lean protein and veggies so you only have one normal piece of cake instead of three giant pieces plus ice cream.

….So, if you live in West Chester, PA are looking for a balanced diet plan that can help you lose weight, shed inches off of your body and build lean muscle and STILL be able to enjoy your favorite alcoholic drinks, then contact us to learn about our nutritional coaching plan!

…Now, back the best summer cocktails for weight loss.

Best Low-Calorie Cocktails under 150 calories

  • Vodka Soda: 96 calories

  • Vodka/Gin and Diet Tonic: 96 calories

  • Rum and Diet Coke: 96 calories

  • Aperol Spritz: 120 calories

  • Vodka/Gin and Regular Tonic: 136 calories

  • Mojito: 135 calories

  • Margarita: 145 calories

  • French 75: 145 calories

These recipes are for the “regular” version of each cocktail, which is generally 1.5-2oz liquor. You can find how to make these on Liquor.com.

What about beer?

The calories in beer are hard to determine because they don’t have to be put on the can or bottle.

Lite Beer will be the lowest in calories, but that’s not always everyone’s favorite. (However, Devin Gage loves a good Miller Lite on a hot day which is only 95 calories).

If you’re a fan of IPAs, I got some bad news for you. Many higher ABV beers can be 250-300+ calories per 12oz beer.

So if you are a craft beer drinking that wants to lose weight, then you want to look for more traditional beers that are under 5% ABV. Think of a pilsner, lager, wheat or even many of the sour beers.

Also, many cans are now 16oz instead of 12oz, adding 25% more calories to each beer.

PS. Our favorite places to find the best selection of beers in West Chester, PA is at Side Bar and Restaurant!

So, what if you are a Wine drinker?

4oz of wine, no matter the type, are between 120-130 calories. The expectation is champagne (lower in calories) and dessert wines (higher in calories).

Now, just because these are lower calorie drinks, doesn’t mean you should drink more. Like I said above, the more you drink, the more likely you are to overeat and send your calories through the roof.

So there you have, the definitive guide to alcohol and weight loss. At the end of the day, if you are trying to lose weight then calories are king.
